A big thank to everyone for the amazing response to the name-a-whale competition. 11,000 suggested names and over 150,000 people voting for their favourite whale name. In the end, the top name with over 78% of the vote was for Mister Splashy Pants.

As we are going to use the top 7 names to name whales from the Great Whale Trail, we will also have whales called Humphrey, Aiko, Libertad, Mira, Kaimana and Aurora swimming about in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

The Japanese whaling fleet aims to slaughter 1000 whales in the name of ‘scientific research’, including 50 threatened humpbacks. Once again, Greenpeace will be there too.

We need HK$300,000 to keep our activists saving whales in the Southern Ocean for 28 days. Please sign up as whale defender and help us reach our target. We need to raise $300,000 to operate 5 inflatable vessels for 28 days. With these inflatables, we will confront the whalers on the open sea and position ourselves between the whales and the harpoons.

In the 05-06 season, we were able to disrupt the hunt and save 82 whales this way. This year, we need your support to help us stay even longer and save more whales.
