2007 Review ¡V We could not have done it without you!

Dear members,

The first part of January is traditionally very quiet as we dust ourselves down after the Festive season and prepare for Chinese New Year. It is also a time for remembering last year and looking forward to the challenges of the year ahead. So, for this first issue of 2008, we wanted to take you back over 2007, and show you what your support helped us achieve.

Tackling Climate Change
A Greenpeace expedition team documented the dramatic level of glacial retreat due to global warming in the Himalayas. The story pushed the climate change issue in China and made headlines around the world.More
We achieved our target of saving one million units of electricity by encouraging people to switch to energy efficient light bulbs. The campaign demonstrated the first easy step that consumers can take to stop climate change.More
Greenpeace China Campaign Director, Lo Sze Ping, addressed world leaders at the UN High Level meeting on Climate Change in New York about strengthening the Kyoto Protocol and talked about the steps that China is taking to address climate change. More
Greenpeace China campaigners attended the landmark Climate Talks in Bali, contributing to an outcome whereby developing countries like China can get funding and technology transfer help from developed countries to fight climate change. Negotiations have now begun to strengthen the next phase of the Kyoto Protocol and we will need your help to keep the pressure up for more real action on climate change. More

Food Safety & GE food
We exposed further loopholes in Hong Kong¡¦s vegetable monitoring system. More
Launched the 4th mainland China edition of our "Shoppers Guide to Avoiding GE Food" to continue to give consumers the information they need to choose what food they eat. (In Chinese only)

Protecting our Forests
Launched the "Good Wood Guide" in mainland China to provide information to consumers about purchasing wood products from sustainable sources. (In Chinese only)
Greenpeace successfully launched and conducted the ¡§Say No to Disposable Chopsticks¡¨ campaign in Beijing with impressive results throughout around 300 restaurant outlets. (In Chinese only)

Greener Electronics
Launched the "Guide to Greener Electronics" which is updated quarterly. We love to see electronic products manufactures competing for who can outgreen whom! More
Greenpeace China lobbying helped a Chinese company top the "Green Ranking" of the electronics industry. More

Saving Whales- The Great Whale Trail
Greenpeace launched a successful campaign advocating non-lethal research of whales compared to Japan's unnecessary lethal "research" in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. More
Victory for Greenpeace supporters ¡V Japan abandoned plans to kill humpback whales in the Southern Ocean this season due to pressure from Greenpeace supporters and the Australian government.
To keep on pressing Japan to abandon the whale hunt entirely, please read on. More

Supporting the Green Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
Two senior BOCOG officials supported Greenpace's energy efficient light bulb project in Beijing. China's most famous table-tennis star, Deng Ya Ping, also supported us and became the spokesperson for our campaign to promote energy efficient light bulbs in the mainland. (In Chinese only)
Greenpeace worked with Coca-Cola in China to use climate-friendly coolers and vending machines in all official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. We hope Coca-Cola's efforts can accelerate industry-wide action to combat climate change. More

Greenpeace China ¡V 10th Anniversary
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Greenpeace China, a series of "GoGreen" themed events were organised in order to share our achievements over the past decade and to raise environmental awareness. The finale - The 10th Anniversary Concert, not only helped to raise funds for our campaigns, but also used a musical platform to deliver environmental messages and to raise public awareness about combating climate change. More
